If you're kicking yourself for not scooping up a discounted Google Home during the post-Thanksgiving weekend, toss that regret aside and grab your wallet. Google is bringing the price for its medium-sized smart speaker back down to the Black Friday and Cyber Monday price of $79 in the Google Store through the rest of December. Read More
Early last month, we started seeing the option to include Google Homes and Assistant-enabled speakers in rooms inside the Home app, just like you would for your lights and switches and thermostats. Now it seems that option has propagated to Android TV devices as well.
Artem spotted it this morning: in his Google Home app, his two SHIELD TVs appear in the Home control tab, under the Assistant section. Tapping on them lets him assign them to a room. Technically, that should allow him to turn on and off the TV along with the lights for example. That's one advantage I can think of. Read More
Two years ago, when I started getting into smart home stuff, I had a small epiphany when I heard a podcaster say they set up their Christmas tree to turn on and off with their iPhone. Until then, I had considered smart plugs completely useless for me, since we use recessed ceiling lights a lot here in Lebanon and rarely have floor or desk lamps. But a Christmas tree and one you can turn on and off without kneeling, ruffling half the tree, and dropping several decorations in order to unplug and replug the lights?! That was a light bulb moment, if ever there was any. Read More
It's getting ridiculous at this point. Google Home has been available for over a year and despite the slow initial rollout of video services, things have picked up with Netflix being joined by CBS, HBO NOW, YouTube TV, CW, and most recently Viki. Now there's another one joining the fold of video partners and, no, again, it is not Google Play Movies. It's Crackle.
Crackle is an online streaming service owned by Sony and, according to Wikipedia, it is available in 21 countries. It's free and ad-supported, and it features original content as well as movies and TV shows from partners such as Miramax, MGM, Universal Studios, The Walt Disney Company, and more. Read More
Now that Google has added multi-user support, the ability to set reminders, and other key functionality to the Google Home, there's not much to complain about. One remaining issue was that you could only say one command at a time. If you wanted to turn off the lights and play something on your TV, you would have to say "turn off the lights," wait for the Home to respond, and then follow up with the casting command. Read More
If you missed out on the Pixel 2's preorder deal for a free Home Mini, don't despair; the Google Store is now restarting that deal and giving $100 in store credit to new buyers. Depending on your priorities, this might be a better deal than the $50 discount on the Pixel 2 XL via eBay. Plus, the Pixelbook now comes with a complimentary Home, which is pretty nifty. Read More
About a week ago, the smart home devices support page of Google Home was updated to add a host of new features that we hadn't heard about until then. We reached out to Google to get some information and we finally have a few answers to share with you. Read More
Some deals are nice, some are great, and some like this one can be a little too good. Remember that promotion Google Express had with Walmart, where if you buy a Google Home or Home Mini through the retailer you can get $25 off your next purchase on Walmart via Google Express? Well, that promo is still live and works with the already discounted $29 Home Mini and $79 Home. Read More
Google recently launched a smaller, cheaper Google Home device, but the original has much better sound. It's still priced at $129 most of the time, though. As the shopping bonanza approaches, you can beat the rush and pick up a Google Home for half-price on eBay. Read More
I've barely used the calendar or My Day feature of my two Google Homes since getting them because of the lack of one major feature: multiple calendar support. See, I almost never add any event to my personal calendar since both my husband and I use a shared calendar so we always know what our responsibilities are, whether they're shared or individual. But now Google Home is finally adding multiple calendar support.
You can find the option if you open the Google Home app, go to More Settings in the left side menu, and scroll down to the Calendar section. (You can also get to it by going to Assistant, then blue box, then Settings. Read More
