Project Fi

Project Fi will give you $100 in service credit if you buy a Moto X4

The Moto X4 is the first non-Google phone to arrive on Project Fi, but the $399 price tag was asking too much. David referred to it as, "a $400 G5 Plus with NFC in a metal and glass sandwich," which I think is fairly accurate. Project Fi has now made the price more tolerable, by including $100 of service credit when you buy an X4.

Project Fi's new referral challenge offers Chromecasts and Moto X4s while helping disaster relief

Google's MVNO carrier, Project Fi, has done a few referral programs in the past. This time, Fi has announced a 'Fi it Forward' challenge, giving subscribers the chance to win a Chromecast or Android One Moto X4.

Moto X4 for Project Fi delayed until later this month

Google and Motorola announced a big step for Project Fi a few weeks ago. The new Moto X4 will be the first "Android One" device in the US, as well as the first non-Google device on Project Fi. It's just not either of those things quite yet. The phone was supposed to be shipping around now, but customers are being notified of a delay of several weeks.

Project Fi experiments with opt-in data throttling, accidentally deactivates customers' SIMs in the process

Data throttling has been standard practice by carriers for years. At first it mostly applied to customers going over their data limits, but recently carriers have begun throttling certain content (like streaming services) for everyone by default, especially in the face of a less strict FCC. Project Fi has been experimenting with an opt-in (not default) throttling feature, which ended up disabling the SIM cards of some customers.

Android One Moto X4 is official, and it's coming to Project Fi for $399

Project Fi, Google's pre-paid carrier, isn't quite as appealing as it once was. Now that the Nexus 5X and 6P are not sold (and suffering from hardware issues), the only phones available on Fi are the Pixel and Pixel XL. And unlike most pre-paid carriers, you can't use whatever device you want, as Fi uses specialized software to switch between networks. Customers have been asking Project Fi to begin selling cheaper devices once again, and the carrier has been listening.

The Moto X4 might be coming to Project Fi

Project Fi is a pretty good carrier if you don't use much cellular data, as it only charges $20/month for the base service and $10 per GB used. But only Google's own devices can be activated on the network, and now that the age of Nexus is over, the only choice is a $650+ phone. To fill the network's mid-range gap, Project Fi announced yesterday that a new device "from a partner" would arrive later this year.

Project Fi confirms a mid-range device from a partner will come later this year

Earlier today Project Fi made a tweet that revealed a future mid-range phone will be coming to the network later this year. The tweet came in response to a statement made about the Nexus 5X, which was one of the last affordable phones available to use on Project Fi. Right now the Pixel and Pixel XL are the only phones that work with Project Fi currently in stock, and given the age of the Nexus 6P and 5X, it could be that neither will return.
