We're ending support of Google Contributor 2.0 / Funding Choices because it's a huge mess and bad for our readers

As you may have noticed, we have been running Google Funding Choices for the past month or so on Android Police. Today, I'm announcing that we're pulling support for it. Funding Choices is riddled with issues, and we get feedback about buggy or just plain awful behavior - like the whole site being blocked - every single day.

Funding Choices and Contributor 2.0 are easily the most beta products I've ever tested from Google, and are not ready for prime time. Even after launch, navigation on the backend dashboard site was not working properly, stats weren't updating, and are to this day a hacky collection of Google Sheets documents.

Paranoid Android release 2 is out, with new device support and new features

It would appear that AOSPA isn't just back, it's here to stay. Today the developers for the project have announced a new release with a handful of new features, bug fixes, and support for six new devices, including the OnePlus One, Nexus 6, and one of our favorite new-old phones, the Nextbit Robin. New features include an Accidental Touch mode, Pocket Lock, and a new collaboration with Shuttle+.

TWRP adds support for the OnePlus 5

One of the better aspects of the OnePlus 5 is that the phone is pretty developer-friendly. There are already a few custom ROMs and kernels available for the device, as well as unofficial builds of TWRP to flash them. Thankfully, TWRP has begun officially supporting the device, so you won't need to use unofficial ports anymore.

Six new Moto Mod concepts announced, including DSLR lens, DirecTV, and "Moto 360 Camera" attachments

Back in 2016, Motorola committed to releasing twelve Moto Mods per year - a rather ambitious amount. However, it appears that the Lenovo-owned company hasn't forgotten about that promise, as it revealed six new Moto Mod concepts a few days ago at an event in Ghana. Moto has shown off Moto Mod concepts in the past (alongside production Moto Mods), but these are new.

The Open Beta builds for the OnePlus 3/3T keep on rolling and this time we've got a couple of nice new features and improvements that should please those of you who like to try out new features before they're ready for the general public.

The new builds are 19 for the OnePlus 3 and 10 for the OnePlus 3T and they carry version 2.1 of the all new OnePlus Launcher, which we started seeing back in March. This new version has dynamic icons for the Weather and Calendar, new settings to change the homescreen's grid and icons, and a Pixel Launcher-like history to display the most recently used apps on the top row of the app drawer.

TWRP adds support for the international LG G6, Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 LTE, and Marshall London

When we last looked at TWRP, the project had added support for a whopping 17 new devices. Granted, most of those were variations of three Samsung devices, but it's still impressive. Since then, three more devices have been added to the official builds - including the LG G6.

TWRP adds support for LeEco Le Pro 3, Android One 4th Gen, Xiaomi Mi 6, and more

As great as LineageOS and other ROMs are, they wouldn't be possible without a custom recovery available for the device. TWRP is usually pretty quick to support new devices, with older phones and tablets being added to the list frequently too. Since our last post, TWRP has added support for 17 more devices, including the LeEco Le Pro 3 and Xiaomi Mi 6.

OnePlus already has the OnePlus 5 kernel source available for download

A lot of smartphone makers get around to releasing kernel sources whenever they feel like. It might be a month or two after a device is released or updated, but it happens. OnePlus, to its credit, is much faster. The OnePlus 5 has only just been announced, but the open source files are already available for download.
