There are also some tweaks to the emoji picker. As we look to the teardown, there are signs of a new theme system with a few new options for more visual control, a new autospace feature, integration with the Motion Stills app, and more.

Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are randomly rebooting for some while on LTE, likely due to kernel panic from modem

The Pixel 2 line of phones has not been averse to criticism, with most of it attributed to the various issues that Pixel 2 XL P-OLED displays experience. While that issue only affects the larger model, this latest news of random reboots is a problem on both the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL alike. [Update x2: Now fixed] Google Opinion Rewards is broken for some users

At a post-Thanksgiving potluck yesterday, a friend and I were sharing our enthusiasm for Android with someone who recently switched to the platform. One of the first things I always tout in these conversations is Google Opinion Rewards, the app that gives you free Play Store credit in exchange for answering survey questions. As I was talking through it, I took out my phone and opened the app to show my reward history (a shade under $90 since 2014).

YouTube v12.45 reveals a dark mode is in the works [APK Teardown]

We've all been there. You're caught up in a YouTube spiral, each video you watch ends with a recommendation that you can't refuse. Day turns to night and the bright background of the app contrasts sharply with the darks and midtones of most videos, making your eyes more tired than they need to be. You rub your eyes to bring them back to life, but it's only a temporary fix. What you really want is to make those bright white backgrounds go away. There's some good news: Dark mode is coming.

[Update: Fixed in V5.2] Some users are reporting Google Clock alarm failures since updating to Oreo

With any major OS release, in spite of rigorous testing and numerous developer previews, it's not uncommon for random issues to arise. Some users who've updated their Pixel or Nexus devices to Oreo have discovered an annoying bug whereby the alarm in the Google Clock app simply isn't going off. And that's a pretty big problem if it's the only alarm app you use.
