[Deal Alert] All of Xiaomi's US products are $3-10 off on Amazon

There's still no telling when Xiaomi will start selling phones in the United States. However, it is getting ready to start selling other things here in 'Murica, like a battery bank and headphones. All of the company's US products are currently on sale, even though they aren't actually out yet.

[Update: Probably fake] Alleged pictures of 'Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s' show iPhone X-like notch

Xiaomi has never shied away from copying Apple, especially when it comes to design. Last year's original Mi Mix was a substantial departure from the company's previous phones, and its edge-to-edge screen (minus the bottom bar) made headlines worldwide. Here  we are a year later, and bezel-less phones are a bit more common now, with the iPhone X gaining the most attention.

Xiaomi just released the Mi Mix 2, with roughly the same design as last year's model, and it's a pretty great device (Jordan is in the process of reviewing it). But it looks like another variation could be in the works, one that looks far more like an iPhone X.

[Update: False alarm] Xiaomi may be working on a phone with edge controls, according to hidden MIUI setting

When the HTC U11 arrived earlier this year, the squeezable frame ('Edge Sense') that performed actions seemed like a gimmick. But it ended up being a neat feature, and we've seen it on a few phones since then. The HTC U11 Plus and Life both have it, as well as the 2017 Pixel phones. Now it looks like Xiaomi could be working on the technology for an upcoming phone.

TWRP adds support for Xiaomi Mi A1 and some Zenfone 4 models

Team Win Recovery Project, or TWRP for short, is just about the only custom recovery worth using in 2017. It does everything most people need, works on a massive number of devices, and can be themed. The last time we covered TWRP, it added support for the Pixel 2 and a few other phones. Now the recovery is officially available for some of ASUS' new phones, and Xiaomi's first Android One device.

Xiaomi Mi A1 (Android One) review: Almost the perfect budget phone

Xiaomi phones always have the same problem. While the company's devices have generally great specifications and design for the price, the software experience is usually not very good. If you've read one of our Xiaomi device reviews, or used one of the company's phones yourself, you probably know what I'm talking about.

All of Xiaomi's phones and tablets ship with MIUI, a heavily modified version of Android that has countless problems. Some of these include Bluetooth connectivity bugs, terrible notification handling, and over-the-top power management that can outright break notifications for many apps. Jordan went in depth about MIUI's issues here, if you're interested in details.

TWRP released for Exynos Galaxy Note8, Xiaomi Redmi 3S and 4A, ZUK Edge, and Elephone P9000

Then you want TWRP and TWRP is delivering. Well, at least for the Exynos version. Qualcomm variants need not apply, yet.

You can grab TWRP for the Exynos Galaxy Note8 (greatlte), but it's not the only device that's added TWRP support recently. Also on the list are the Xiaomi Redmi 3S/Prime/3X (land), the Xiaomi Redmi 4A (rolex), the ZUK Edge (z2x), (update) and the Elephone P9000 (p9000).

Guide: The best phones and tablets for LineageOS

The following post was written by Ryne Hager and Corbin Davenport.

The vast majority of Android device buyers don't know or care what a custom ROM is. And that's completely fine - a phone or tablet's stock ROM will be enough for 99.9% of potential users. But for the 0.1% that like to tinker, the development community surrounding a given device can drastically impact the value. Your purchase can become a much better deal if there is a wealth of custom ROM options available, extending its lifespan for possibly years (and nearly a decade for the HD2).

There are quite a few popular custom ROMs in the wild, but LineageOS is probably one of the best overall.

Xiaomi brings Mi FileExplorer, with FTP server, to the Play Store for all devices [APK Download]

Xiaomi is following in the footsteps of many OEMs and releasing its apps onto the Play Store for faster updates, which avoids the long waits of firmware upgrades. However, Xiaomi is doing something differently: it's allowing users of other brands' devices to use its apps. After the capable Mi Calculator, now we have Mi FileExplorer on the Play Store. The app is still marked as "Unreleased" so it's still in beta, but from my tests it seems to work quite well.

Mi FileExplorer reminds me of the built-in file browser I've seen on my Samsung and LG devices: there's a regular directory browser, but also a per-type categorization that lets you view all your stored images or videos or APKs or documents (and other types) regardless of which folder they're in.
